New Titleist Pro V1 & Pro V1x – What’s different?

More Precision.  More Consistency.  More Speed.

(Plus YELLOW!)

These 3 golfing terms (not yellow) are what all golfers LOVE to hear with the release of a new golf ball generation.  With the release of Titleist Pro V1 & Pro V1x they are telling us just that.  They are telling us that you will get More Precision, More Consistency, and More speed.

As you know we love Pro V’s and we respect the Titleist brand so let’s get to the details of what’s different in the newest generation and why they will improve your game.

Quick Reminder

I’d like to remind our amazing audience that Titleist only releases new versions of their Pro V1 models every other year (odd numbered years) 2013, 2015, 2017, and now 2019.  They have used this pattern since their inception.  Titleist has brought enhancements to the market every two years, which personally I like and respect. They realize that in order to focus on truly enhancing the ball there R&D Team needs time to do it right.

Many golf ball companies use their “Marketing” division to make us golfers “feel” like every year, technology has advanced SO much that we have to spend a ton of money on the new releases of golf balls.  Well……not Titleist.

So what’s the difference?

(If you’d rather see the difference Hacker style check it out below!)

1. Arrow

For those who really don’t care about the technical details, check out the image below.  This shows the new gray arrow of the 2019 generation instead of the black arrow of the 2017 generation.

This is the only identifiable difference in the outside of the ball. (Don’t worry, I do realize the number is red in the Pro V1x but remember I am focusing on the new changes for 2019)  I give you permission to use this information as an  advantage against your friends.  Maybe in a friendly wager or just to prove that you are the best.  Either way you can now feel like you got smarter today and can go relax.  But if you are like me and you love the details then continue reading!

Now let’s focus on the new 2019 Titleist Pro V1 & Pro V1x key enhancements other than just what “looks” different.

2.  Thinner Cover

Both the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x now have a thinner cover.  The cover is actually 17% thinner!  Think about the size of a golf ball cover, then take away 17% of it.  One would think that the overall size of the ball would shrink right?  But not in this case, Titleist has changed a few other components to make up for this which will be a little later.

What does a thinner cover do?

Did you know that the cover of a golf ball does nothing to promote speed?  That’s right, no speed just spin and control.  This is why a softer covered golf ball gives you more control around the greens (basically promoting more spin).  Creating a ball with a thinner cover now gives Titleist the ability to replace that 17% with some other great advancements.

3.  New Larger Casing Layer

Now, what the heck is a casing layer?  The casing layer is the speed enhancing, spin optimizing layer that helps power Pro V1 and Pro V1x for exceptional distance in the long game.  It is the second layer under the cover.  The new 2019 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls have larger casing layers, adding faster material to their respective designs.

4.  Faster Core

More Speed. Less Spin. Same Feel. The new cores have more speed and less spin while maintaining their same characteristics and compression of the previous version.  Titleist says that these cores act like engines with advanced formulation and processing capabilities.

Now what’s up with the 2019 Titleist Pro V1 YELLOW ??

Yep, you heard correctly.  Titleist has finally succumb to the other manufacturers and released their very first YELLOW Pro V1 golf ball.  It was announced by “Mike D” a Team Titlist Manager, on the Team Titlist Forum earlier this year. In his post, he says that after talking to the Titleist product team, “I am able to confirm that we will be launching (sorry, I couldn’t avoid the pun) yellow Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls in 2019.”

For many years colored balls have had the reputation that they underpreform white colored golf balls.  This led to many beginners playing these balls and the more advanced golfer sticking to white.  Titleist has joined most major golf ball manufacturers who have sold colored balls for many years.

It is as simple of just slapping some yellow color on the cover and calling it a day?  No way, says a member of Titleist R&D Team.

“We have spent countless hours on figuring out how we could develop the best possible bright colored cover formulation. They went through numerous trials to get everything just right.”

We have heard very limited details of what was necessary to pull off the yellow color without changing the experience we have come to love in white Pro V1 golf balls but be assured that when they do, we will be all over it!

Either Pro V1 golf ball will give you the best opportunity to shoot the lowest score possible, no matter what level golfer you are.

Bottom line is that you need to find a ball that you LOVE and have 100% confidence on for every shot. Hopefully now you have a better understanding of the enhancements of the new 2017 Pro V1 golf balls and will lower your scores this season!
